Introduction
The expression JUNIOR HANDLING refers to the presentation of purebred dogs in the show ring by young people. The HANDLER is a "dog handler". In different countries, such as the United States, the trade of HANDLER exists. People entrust him with pedigree dogs which he trains in order to present them successfully at important exhibitions. According to the ranking of the dogs, the HANDLER achieves an interesting gain.
JUNIOR HANDLING originated in England, then established itself in the USA around the 1930s. It was a time when dog shows were the event of the year in which the whole family took part body and soul.
There was never any question of a child presenting his parents' dog or dogs without serious preparation. Although many young people have excellent contact with animals, especially dogs, everything must be learned. It is essential that the child has time and that he receives the necessary instructions. If a human being wants to work with an animal, mutual understanding and a wealth of knowledge are essential.
The child must know how to address a dog so that he understands. He must learn to lead his dog in such a way that it will gladly do what he asks of him. He must also learn what the dog wants and how he can please him. Between the child and the dog, a real and deep friendship must be born.

Maybe you will need the help of your family too. This is why all this must be discussed very frankly in "family council". And if nothing stands in the way and if you want to participate with joy and enthusiasm, then you have already taken the first step that leads to success.

If possible, he should have basic obedience skills, so you can lead him on a leash without using force. Whether tall or short, long or short haired only matters for you personally. If your family already has your partner, of course it's the easiest. But maybe you will also find a neighbor who will entrust you with his dog, or a breeder or the management of an animal shelter. If you are of rather small stature, we recommend a medium to small breed, but if you are athletic and already quite tall, a large and vigorous dog may be ideal for you.
